-10/26/07-    Two new links have been added to our list - one for the SHS Class of '47 and the other is for the SHS Class of '62. Also, our album for photos from the Flood of '72 has been updated to the newer format and work is underway on updating other albums.

-10/12/07-    We recently received a number of photos from one of our visitors in Texas; Gail Beckman Morgan. I used the opportunity of her support as an incentive for me to do something that I've been needing to do for quite some time ... and that was to find a better method of doing the photo albums. If you visit the Photo Albums, you'll find a new folder named "Recent Additions". Have a look, and take the time if you can to discover its improved funtionality (zooming, panning, slide-show, and the ability to leave a comment on individual photos). I've already started the process of reworking our other albums into this new format ... as I have time. And thanks again to Gail ... our visitors always appreciate seeing new glimpses of 'Home', both old and new. Enjoy.

-06/16/07-    Because of the ever-increasing number of automated (spambot) entries being submitted to the guestbook, all causing me extra work, and some placing an unacceptable load on the server, I've taken the step of passwording the guestbook. The login and password are the same for everyone, and can always be found by clicking on the guestbook link. If you have previously put the guestbook in your bookmarks, you should replace it with a bookmark to http://www.elmira-ny.com/gb.shtml . Sorry for the inconvenience, but it was necessary that this be done.

-02/25/07-    I've received a few requests to make our "Where Is It" game a weekly feature. Primarily because of the time involved, and to a lesser degree because of the challange of coming up with good, non-repeated locations, I'm just not able to do it weekly. But I'm going to introduce two new quizzes to help fill the gap. They will be of a nature that will be easier for me to maintain, yet will hopefully provide you with some enjoyable brain exercise. Look for them in the Hodge-Podge area.

And, as a side note, I never did receive any feedback concerning the word-search puzzle that was put up a very long time ago. I was going to make the wordsearch a regular feature, but when I never heard any feedback on it, I just never got back into it. Is that something that anyone is interested in seeing revived?

-02/24/07-    The process of creating the daily postcard views for our front page is now caught up... we've got a collection of 220 cards in the mix, 10 newly acquired ones to add this week, and I will be purchasing more in the future. Plans now are to use the postcards to develop images that can be used for desktop backgrounds, and to create a few screensavers.

-01/23/07-    I've finally started the process of scanning a growing collection of some 200 Elmira area postcards. I figure to scan and format an average of 5 to 10 a day, adding each day's output to the pool of card images that are used for the daily "Today's old Postcard View" feature that now appears on the main page. The system will randomly select a card each day.

After the scanning process is complete, I'll create an online album of the collection, with better resolution than the daily images, and hope to include additional information about the locations and subjects of many of the cards.

-01/23/07-    On a less happy note, I'm concened about the future of the " Photo Request" feature. When it was first introduced, it went a little slow... but in time it was going very well indeed, thanks to Carol, Jason, Joe, Tony, Beth, Melissa, Scott, and some important anonynous folks. But the well ran dry, and we haven't received any submissions in a very long time. I remain hopeful that there are some others among you who are willing to step up for a while. I'm 500 miles away from Elmira, or I'd be out there taking photos myself.

This feature depends greatly on the people still living in the area to help us out. Please take a look at the photo request page, and run out some nice morning or afternoon and make someone happy with a picture or two(the larger the resolution, the better - makes the end result nicer). And those of you out there that have old photos stashed away... I hope you'll take some time to have a look at the requests to see if you might not have a surprise for someone.

A note on the submissions... some people, with the very best of intentions, have submitted images they have copied or downloaded from the internet. I have a policy of not using such material unless it is donated by the owner of the image... out of courtesy and respect for the other website operators, and in consideration of the owners of the material. If someone sends me the web address where an image is available, I send that info along to the requestor, but leave the photo request posted in hopes that someone will be able to fill it.
