Kathy Jameson 05-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Now living in: Allentown, PA [ E-mail ]  I was born in Elmira, but we lived in Waverly. I remember going to Elmira for shopping and the dentist, and how much I liked the town. My father would take us kids to the movies while Mom shopped. I became a big movie fan because of the flicks I saw in Elmira. I now try to visit Elmira once a year or so, I loved the town and the entire area. I miss Eldridge park and wish there were more pictures of it to view. (I'm also an amusement park aficionado.) We left the area in 1965, and it wasn't until 1996 that I first returned. I was sad to see the city looking so tired. Eldridge park was gone, the movie theaters were gone, I couldn't find Sears (I think it was Sears). But Curly's Chicken House was still there, and slowly all the memories came back. I stayed in Elmira an extra day, and I really have to say that I love this city.

We have 3 boys, Kevin Jr., Vincent, and Stephen. My husband is in the Army. We've lived in NY, LA, Hawaii, Germany, and now TN. It's been a great ride but it will come to an end in about 3 years...he'll retire. YAH! I'm going back to college to get my teaching degree at Austin Peay State University. Melanie Sams Davis 04-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Horseheads 1990 Now living in: Pickens, sc [ E-mail ]  Hello moved from Elmira (Breesport area)when westinghouse shut down...would have graduated from HorseHeads High in 1990 but moved and gradauted from Pickens High School in S.C....Have been back a couple of times and boy has things changed,remember when you could go to Eldridge park and go fishing and the Merry Go Round with the brass ring,the ferris wheel, and the haunted house that you rode the cars thru???that was some fun times...Elmira has become a ghost town compared to what it was when i was a child sure would love to see some kind of business or economy come in and make it beautiful agian..I guess it was 1987 when i moved and came south where i met my husband of 11 yrs. Richard W. Murphy 04-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Other 1950 Now living in: Bethesda, MD [ E-mail ]  Now that none of my family remains in Elmira (my mother passed away in 1997 and my brother, who is retired, moved away about two years earlier), I have only visited the city once since my mother died and that was in 1998. I hope to get up there sometime before the weather turns cold in the autumn, but am not certain. However, I keep in touch with a few friends there, peruse the online edition of the Star-Gazette daily, and visit your excellent Website periodically. I still consider myself an Elmiran and have fond memories of growing up there. The Southern Tier and the Finger Lakes region are God's Country in my opinion.

Mary Foster Bacon 04-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Elmira Free Academy 1980 Now living in: Dale City, VA [ E-mail ]  After graduating from EFA,I lived in South Dakota for 2 years, then England for 3 years, on to Rome NY for 5 years and then moved to VA where I have made my home for the last 9 years and hope to grow old here. If any of my classmates would like to contact me please drop me an e-mail. I do miss Elmira from time to time and all the good times I had growing up, but don't miss the cold weather. I do try to make a journey up north at least once a year to see my family who have seemed to migrate to either Horseheads, Elmira Heights or Erin. If any of my friends and classmates are in the area, let me know, it would be nice to see and hear from you.

Retired from the Dept. of Corrections here in De. 1994. I remember going in the front door of the Colonial Theater in the flood of 1947? in a canoe. Anyone know where Geraldine Nichols (maiden name is?) I had 7 children (don't ask me how many grandchildren,I lost count).

James P. Owens, Sr. 04-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Catholic High 1949 Now living in: Baton Rouge, LA [ E-mail ]  I left Elmira in June of '49--right after graduation--and enlisted in the Army. After almost 22 years, I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, with combat service in both Korea and Vietnam. I was a police officer for five years. I taught school at all levels College to Kindergarten for 20 years after taking degrees in Psychology and Theology. I'm married to Violet "Lou" O'pry of Church Point, LA and we have four children and thirteen grandchildren. Life is great!

Joel Young 02-Aug-2001 High School: Class of: Southside 1978 Now living in: New Waterford, NS [ E-mail ]  Grew up on Southport Street, right across from where Dubois Street begins; kitty-corner from Mr. O'Dell's house (SHS Principal). Attended Hardy Elementary school (1965-1972), then Broadway Jr. High (1972-1975), and finally SHS, graduating in 1978. Travelled all thru the U.S. in the late 70's/early 80's as a professional musician. Came back to Elmira in September '84, and worked as an assistant manager at Picnic Pizza in Langdon Plaza starting in November. Met a girl from Nova Scotia, Canada in June '85, and moved there in April '86. We got married June 28, 1986. We have no children. Here in Nova Scotia I spent another 11 years in music: performing, recording and writing songs. Retired from that in December 1997. I now work part-time in a pizza shop, and spend most of my time online running a successful e-commerce business, as well as designing, building and maintaining various web sites. Do I miss Elmira? Sometimes, but what I'm missing is the Elmira I grew up in. I've been back to visit a couple times but it's not the same. The flood of '72 changed everything, and since 1986 the whole city has been transformed into a whole different place. But I'll be back again someday to check it out. HEY! Where's the SHS Class of '78???
